chill night in...
Light from the tv was casting on their faces, slow flashing with bright whites and blues. The film fully encapsulating their attention, as they laid cuddled under a mountain of blankets. Their attention gets pulled away from the film when their decorative lights hanging overhead behind it rapidly start to flicker. A shadow that none of them sees rushes through the hallway, then a huge gust of wind slams the window closed. They quickly shift out of their comfortable positions. Fran tries to assure them that it’s nothing until the static starts to interrupt the movie.
“What the hell was that… does no one else still feel a little uneasy after we found that thing… whatever that was. Like a heavyweight on your chest? Or is that just me being me?” Matt asks, breathing slightly heavy.
There was a long pause, as they all start thinking about what just happened, Matt starts pacing back and forth and Sarah fiddles with her hands.
“You know… I didn’t want to think anything of it but yeah. The energy just feels off.” Sarah says quietly, with slight fear in her voice. Fran is avoiding eye contact and shifting on her feet.
“I have to admit something. I- I may or may not have gone back for the artefact and brought it back here. BEFoRE YoU Get MAD- I wanted to do some research on it…” Matt cuts her off and quickly stands right in front of Fran. Barely leaving half a meter between them, his eyes got wide as he shouts,
“YOU’RE TELLING ME THAT THING IS IN THIS HOUSE?!?!” A mix of anger and fear fills his voice.
“I'm sorry, I won’t put us in harm’s way, I promise I’ll get this sorted.” Fran tries to soothe.
The lights start to flicker again and this time the shadow runs in front of the tv, the trio scream, but they don’t realize that secretly Fran was enjoying it all. Fran gets a flicker of an idea and throws the artefact across the room then yells, “RUN!” and they rush out their apartment.
Sarah states as they walk away from their building, “Fran I know you’re scared, you don’t need to hide it from us.”
“I was bored with that movie anyways, we needed some excitement” Fran tries to play it off.
“Okay, I need to get my mind off of what just happened… Thomas from uni is throwing a party tonight. Wanna go check it out?” Sarah suggests, with expectation in her eyes...
