beginning of the end...

The next day starts too quickly. Everyone is sitting in the living room, not moving a muscle, still traumatized from the course of events from the evening before. Sarah and Matt stare blankly out the window, dark circles under their eyes as they try to process what has happened. Fran, however, is transfixed by the artefact.

Matt clearly annoyed with Fran’s lack of empathy in the whole situation, “Would you give it a rest with that thing Fran? Seriously! “

Fran brushes him off saying, “Don’t worry I won’t break it.”

More annoyance rises in Matt, “Fran that’s not what I meant. Put that shit away, I’m serious. Everything was fine until you took that thing.”

Still, without taking her eyes off of the shiny and sparkly artefact Fran replies, “Come on, Matt it’s just a messily old thing, you need to relax, it didn’t cause what happened.”

This brewed a wave of anger inside of him, as he slowly stands up from his seats, “Relax?! Are you kidding?!?”

This shook Sarah out of her trance, as she turns to glare at Fran and her voice filled with ice, “Fran… Someone died.” There was a heavy and tense pause, “Get rid of it. Now.”

Sarah and Matt both give her cold stares and Fran finally sighs and shifts her focus to the others in the room.

“Okay, okay, you know what? You’re right! Clearly there is something different, something powerful about this thing. We should get rid of it.” Fran explained, “the last thing we want is for it to fall into the wrong hands and cause even more mischief for anyone else, right?”

Sarah and Matt couldn’t tell how sincere Fran was actually being.

Matt hesitated for a moment then sighed, “Right… So, what do we do with it now?”

Fran’s attention once again being drawn into staring at the object like a magnet, “Just leave it to me I’ll do some research. We’re gonna make sure nobody else gets ahold of this. Nobody.”

Sarah and Matt exchange a concerned glance between each other and Fran who is far too fascinated by the object to notice.

do you want to trust fran?
